The Google machine is the biggest and most popular search and advertising system on the Internet and has reached global proportions in an incredibly short time.
It might be interesting to take a look inside the Google machine and see how it really works to service its customers and benefit us as business owners.
Inside the Google search engine system. How does it really work?
Firstly the statistics: Google has 10,000 servers and 7 of the largest databases in the world. It has branches in several languages, was founded and is still run by 2 brilliant programmers Sergey Brin and Larry Page.
Page Rank: is the name given to the algorithms that Google employs to index sites. There are 100s of these rules most of which are kept secret by Google to prevent people from cheating and spamming their engine. When cheating occurs the Google search engine will not be as efficient as it should be.

The search engine: The Google search engine relies on little spy bots called Googlebots.
1. These little bots or spiders as they are termed travel the World Wide Web and pick up information from all the websites they find. They are specially programmed to look for certain information about every web site they find. This is termed as crawling the websites.
2. They carry this information back to the Google database, where it is stored. This information is all sifted through, using the Page Rank algorithms as criteria for grading or ranking sites.
3. Based on the Page Rank algorithms the websites are indexed and SERP pages are built
4. SERP pages are the pages of websites that come up when a keyword is entered by a searcher. With Google there are about 10 websites to a page.
Basic things Google looks for when indexing a site.
• Quality-is very important to Google. As they want only the best sites to be available for those who use their search engine • Link popularity- Every link to your website is a vote of confidence for your site in Google’s eyes. However those votes must be from good quality sites that are complementary to your business. • Relevance-every thing about your site must be highly relevant to your business and industry. This includes content and links.
How this will help you as a business: Google’s customers are your visitors and potential customers. What is good for Google is in effect good for you. If you build your site the Google way making sure you go by all there rules you will not only build a site you can be proud of but will make one that your visitors will enjoy visiting again and again. This will translate into leads and good sales conversion for your business. Which of course means more sales and profits for you.
Knowing how Google operates is not just trivia it will help you understand how Google works and what they expect of a site. Getting into the top position with Google is rather like being in a elite club. There are lots of advantages to being there but also a few rules to follow.
