How does your PageRank affect your traffic?
Some people believe that if they only achieve a high PageRank..................
.............. (PR) score for their website, then they’ll be in the top of the search engines for their keyword(s), and therefore have more traffic than they can handle. I say stop by and visit those people the next time you’re in “LaLa Land”, but here in the real world it just doesn’t work that way.

PageRank does affect your ranking in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Page)............
.........but contrary to popular belief it’s not the deciding factor. Several other factors, such as keyword density and placement, relevance, and content, are also considered by the search engines. Some believe these play an equally important role in website ranking. If you don’t believe it just do your own test, pick a few keywords and see how the top five sites rank in PR, I’ll bet you find that a lot of times the top site has a lower PR than sites below it.
So what does that mean for your traffic? Well, obviously the higher your site appears in the SERPs, the more traffic you’ll have. It’s a well-known fact that people will rarely look past the top 10 or 20 sites in their searches. So that means that you’ll need to be one of those for your keyword(s).

But how much does PageRank have to do with it?
That’s a good question. It obviously plays a part, simply because the criteria used to determine your PR is the criteria used to even get indexed in the search engines these days. There was a time not too long ago when it was believed that your Meta Tags had the most to do with your ranking. Now, at least these post-Google days, it’s the links that play a major part. If you don’t have any links pointing to your site you will be ignored by Google. I believe they call it “missed” but it still amounts to the same thing doesn’t it?
There are many people making a lucrative living offering SEO (Search Engine Optimization) services to people like you and me. They have made it their business to know and understand the algorithms of the search engines. However, Google has never completely divulged the secrets of theirs, so optimizing for their site is still hit and miss. That said, the SEO people still have a world of knowledge and secrets to help your site in the search engine rankings despite Google’s elusiveness.
Also, a side benefit of your quest to be listed in the Google elite is that you’ve been acquiring links from many good sites that will also bring in traffic. But you don’t have to count on the search engines and Google alone to bring in your customers. There are many other ways, some of which are either low-cost or free, that can bring in lots of good traffic to your site as well. There are ways online and offline that you can use to advertise your site and bring in traffic. Traffic comes from all forms of advertisements and shouldn’t be considered a commodity of search engines alone.
