Optimizing Your Site For Google

Making your web site visible to the search engines.

Search engine optimization is a very necessary part of your web promotion. Search engines need to be able to read information from your website and this is why you will optimize it. Google has some little quirks that are unique to them but will also help you with other search engines. When you optimize your site with Google in mind you will be ready for the other search engines as well.

So what are the steps to optimize for the Google search engine machine? Again they are fairly simple:

Key words: This is your most important part of optimizing. Finding your targeted key words. You will be looking for well searched (high demand) with less websites (low supply) This are called niche or specialized keywords:

Go to http://goodkeywords.com  and download a very useful free tool there. This will help you get your basic keywords. Then dig deeper with http://wordtracker.com there is a nominal subscription fee but is worth it. Follow all instructions and you will get many key phrases and keywords here. You can also sort them into the best niche keywords and phrases. List them on excel or even notepad and keep them ready.

Domain name: Yes even this needs to be optimized if you can. Use your main key phrase that best describes your business and form your domain name around it. Choose a few in case your first choice is taken. Do this as soon as you can as domain names get snapped up quickly. Also put some thought into this it is hard to change.

Meta tags: so which ones are really necessary these days?

Meta tags used to be very important to optimization but have now lost their importance due to excessive keyword spamming of the search engines. The only ones that have any significance are:

-Title: use one of your main key phrases
-Description: expand the phrase. Try to keep it short and not go beyond 14-20 words.

Optimized content: This is a critical part of your optimization. One of the easiest and effective ways of doing this is by keyword isolation. This is when you take one keyword phrase or a couple of keywords and build your content around it. You will take a different one for each page or article of content. This makes it very easy to optimize. Here is how you can basically optimize your content pages:

1. Use your keyword phrase that will best describe your content article and use it as your title
2. Use the phrase in its entirety if possible for the 1st sentence or the 1st paragraph
3. Sprinkle your keywords or phrase in the body of the article
4. Try to use the phrase in its entirety in the last paragraph
5. Your page should have about 3% density for Google.
6. A word of caution sprinkle but do not stuff (overuse) keywords as this will get you penalized by Google

An extra thing for Google is creation of links especially back links. There are a few ways you can do this:

-Article distribution
-Link baiting
-Blogging

So this is your basic optimization. If you follow these steps you will be ready for Google and the rest of the search engines. Now get ready for those warm ready to buy visitors.
