Sudden Changes In PR-what happened?
Sometimes you will experience a sudden drop in Page Rank for your site and you are at a loss as to what may have happened.
However there is no need for panic as there are some things you can do to rectify this. There can be several reasons for this.
.
Firstly a brief overview of what Page Rank is and why you should care:
Page Rank is the name given to Google’s set of algorithms, or rules, they use for assessing sites when they index them. There are of course 100s of these rules that make up the Google algorithms. These are mostly kept a secret by Google because they do not want people trying to take short cuts and cheating the engine. When this happens Google’s engine becomes less relevant and effective for its customers. The Page Rank given to your site will have a direct bearing on your position in Google. The higher your rank the better your position. Page Rank ranges from 1-10, with 10 being the highest.

The infamous Google Dance:
About every month The Internet will experience a phenomena known as the Google Dance. This is when Google indexes all the sites in its database. There are 10,000 servers servicing a global market. Google indexes each server separately to avoid total shut down. What happens in effect is that 2 large sites are on different servers but are linked together. This causes a yo-yo effect in Page Rank as indexes get shifted. It will take a few days to subside and settle down.
A true change in Page Rank: it is possible that your site may have slipped in Page Rank. Sometimes but not too often Google will change its algorithms and your site may not be matching as many as it used to. Or one of your competitors has jumped ahead and grabbed your position.
What to do to help restore your Page Rank: wait a few days to check whether it is just the Google dance and your site may return to normal. If it does not you can do a couple of things to help your site to regain its Page Rank.
1. Keep all options open by optimizing all your web pages. Not all your pages will have dropped and you can still take advantage of those that are still in high positions. 2. Keep adding quality optimized content on a regular basis.
Above all be prepared by:
• Making sure your keywords are still being searched and are still popular. • Be cautious about who and where you link to • Use RSS feeds and blogs to get your new content picked up
Part of the fun of online business is the rapid changes that can occur at any given moment. Instead of panicking when Page Rank slips just take the challenge to improve it and you will see that you will not necessarily lose a great deal of sales and you may even gain a few more as you improve your site.
