The Google Dance
The Google dance brings fear and apprehension to all who take SEO marketing seriously.
What is this infamous dance and why does it get this sort of reaction? It all begins when the Google machine has to index all the websites on its search engine and happens about once a month. This of course this “rocks the boat” somewhat as the current websites’ positions go up and down. Because of the sheer number of websites on the Google search engine this may go on for a number of days.
How does this happen? Google has at least 10,000 servers and 7 datacenters to run the global Google machine. This means that even if there is technical difficulty in one area the search engine will be kept running smoothly and there will never be downtime. To ensure everything continues smoothly Google will flip between servers. Rank may drop temporarily when this happens but will not last.
. .
The Google dance occurs as Google indexes each server.
This is done on one server at a time because if all were indexed at the same time it would cause a complete shutdown of the Google search engine each time they had to index. Just think how much business Google would loose. When 2 big sites are on separate servers and linked together this will cause the dance effect as the Page Ranks go up and down.
So why all the panic: when web masters see their sites going up and down in position they naturally think that they are going to lose a lot of sales to competition. However this may not be the case as your competition is facing the same problem.
When does this happen? Is there any way we can tell when the Google boys will strike up the band and start the dance? This is fairly predictable as it occurs about once a month.

Here are some ways to stay clam and on top:
-Keep all your options open by indexing all your pages on Google. By doing this you can cover yourself as if one or two go down in position the others may still stay on top and be seen. -Add content on a regular basis-perhaps once a week- this will keep Googlebots interested in your site and keep you on top. -Check that your keywords are still being searched for and popular -Use isolation optimization. 1-2 keywords per content page and 3% density -Make use of RSS feeds and blogging this can help new content be indexed better -As always be careful whom you link to. -Use multiple promotions Google should not be your only source of business
Now the small monthly dance is not too bad the worst Google dance occurs when they have to adjust their algorithms. This does not happen to often but when it does the dance becomes frenzied. Positions move up and down dramatically and webmasters are in an uproar.
Many think the Google boys are playing mind games and like to see the fun. However this is simply not the truth. They do not want to see their webmasters in panic and cause havoc on their search engine. That is not good for business. However they do have to fine tune the Google machine for a couple of reasons. People are always trying new black hat tricks on the search engine and their primary target is always Google. This requires the Google boys to fight back with new algorithms to counter this. A machine like Google cannot afford to be undermined by this sort of thing. New technology is always coming out requiring Google to fine tune its engine. In order to maintain its top position Google will have to continue the dance but if you just remain calm and apply these points there is no reason to suppose that you cannot survive and stay in a reasonable position.
