The Google Sandbox. How to escape
The infamous Google sand box! I am sure you have heard about this quite a bit in SEO forums and even in some SEO and marketing newsletters.
Your probably wondering what it might be. Despite its name and the visions of happy children playing in sand boxes, it is anything but fun to have your site stuck here.
Firstly what is this dreaded Google sand box? It is a dark area of Google where sites are stashed and never indexed. This place seems to have been created around March 2004.
. .
So why does Google need this area anyway?
There are a couple of reasons sites are put or left in here. One is that your site is a new one and is on probation in the sand box until Google has assessed your site properly and decided it is good enough to be indexed in the Google search engine. This may sound slightly harsh but Google must maintain good quality sites on its engine to give the best possible service to its customers the searchers.
The second and more sinister reason is that you have somehow broken the Google code of rules and your site has been penalized and banned from the Google search engine. Google has simply jailed your site in the sand box. This is serious business and you will need to work on your site fast to get back into Google’s good books.

How do you know your site is in the sand box»
• You Search for your site by URL and you just find the URL there and nothing else. • Your new site which has not been indexed for over a month • Your Page Rank Meter has never been green-this indicates you are not yet ranked • Your site has suddenly disappeared from the Google search engine • There is a marked drop in sales • The Page rank meter suddenly turns grey
A sure fire way to stay out of that sand box is to play by Google’s code of rules. Stay away from link farms. Do not try to be too smart and use “black hat” SEO tactics. The Google boys have based their whole business on being brilliant programmers and sleuths. The Google machine will catch up with you and it is not pleasant when they do.
Once in the sand box is it ever possible to escape? Yes especially if you are a new site.
For a new site you can do article distribution. You bio box will link back to your site. You can blog and include anchor links that lead back to your site. If you do this on http://blogger.com this is Google’s own blog site and Googlebots crawl this regularly. They will pick up your blog with its anchor links and find your site. This should help your new site get indexed and out of the sand box.
If you have been banned: this is a fairly serious matter and not so easy to retrieve your site. However you can try to help yourself by:
a. Removing all content, links and HTML coding that is not complient to Google rules. b. Correct your content optimization, (keyword sprinkled not keyword stuffed) c. When you complete cleaned up of your site treat it as a new site and try the above tactics for new sites in the sandbox d. In the event that these methods do not work you may have to start from scratch and remake your site.
The lesson to be learnt is not to cross Google. You want to be included in their search engine and help them service their customers (your visitors) you will need to play by their rules or forget being indexed. Be cautious and try not to get on the wrong side of Google and you can enjoy a happy and prosperous partnership with Google.
