How The Yahoo Directory Can Increase Your PageRank
Did you know the best way to increase your Google PageRank is not even within Google»
“What?!” you scream. Then How? Believe it or not – it’s Yahoo! That’s right, getting included in the Yahoo Directory will significantly increase your PageRank score and thereby increase your rank in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Page).

Let’s take a look at some of the reasons why.
Don’t ask me why, but my research has indicated that several SEO (Search Engine Optimization) experts have found time and time again that a client’s PageRank will increase after they have been listed in the Yahoo Directory. They believe it is because of the value the search engines place on the link from Yahoo. If you don’t already know, PageRank uses not only the quantity but also the quality of the incoming links to your site as one of the determining factors in your PageRank score.
They (search engines) believe that only sites of a certain quality will get accepted into the Yahoo Directory. They also know that serious businesses will invest the $299 yearly fee to be included, while marginal or personal or hobby sites will normally not. Therefore it is considered a huge “vote” for your site. The only other link that holds as much value, possibly even more, is the Open Directory. (Keep reading for a few words of caution regarding submitting to the Open Directory.) The SEO experts believe that there is some level of value assigned in search algorithms to inclusion in the Yahoo Directory.

But, I know what some of you are thinking,
$299 dollars if a lot of money, right? Well, yes and no. I mean, if you look at the payoff once your site is accepted then it seems like very little money in retrospect. Also, you can pay a monthly fee of $24.92 instead of the full $299 up front. That makes it a little easier right? It all comes down to you, if you believe the SEO experts that the Yahoo Directory will increase your PageRank and therefore traffic flow, then by all means you should find a way to submit. If not, consider submitting to the Open Directory. It’s free and some believe it is even more important, link wise, than Yahoo.
To submit to the Open Directory, also referred to as DMOZ, go to http://DMOZ.org and follow submission instructions. Here is the word of caution I promised though, be very careful when composing your site description. That line of text will affect your keyword phrase ranking in other search engines for a long time. Be sure that your description is keyword rich and an effective description. If you do it wrong, it will be re-written by an editor who’s only looking to fit it into a category. It can take a long time to finally get accepted in the Open Directory, but it’s definitely worth the time and trouble.
So, don’t waste your money purchasing links or your time begging for nearly worthless reciprocal links. Bite the bullet and pay the money to get into Yahoo. You’ll be glad you did.
